If you're not already registered, it's worth doing anyway because you can also buy fantastic rare coins 24-7 from all over the world. As a seller, if you are selling good quality coins then there is no reason why you won't get the true market value for your coins and if you're lucky and you have something particularly interesting, you might even get more if there are a couple of interested parties who decide to start bidding against each other! All you need is your computer (which you have already otherwise you wouldn't be here) and a digital camera or scanner because you will need to add some reasonable quality images of the coins for sale. If you don't know how to grade your coins, you can avoid problems by showing several clear images, or alternatively, buy a coin collecting price guide and they will explain how they arrive at the gradings used.

Guinea coins for sale. The guinea is a British coin that was minted in the between 1663 and 1813.  It was the first English machine-struck gold coin, originally worth one pound sterling,  equal to twenty shillings; but rises in the price of gold caused the value of the guinea to increase, at times to as high as thirty shillings; from 1717 till 1816, its value was officially fixed at twenty-one shillings. Following that, Great Britain adopted the gold standard and guinea became a colloquial term.

The name came from the Guinea region in West Africa, where much of the gold used to make the coins originated.  Although no longer circulated, the term guinea survives in some circles, notably horse racing,  and in the sale of rams, to mean an amount of one pound and one shilling (21 shillings) or one pound and five pence in decimalised currency. The name also forms the basis for the Arabic word for the Egyptian pound, as a sum of 100 qurush (i.e., one pound) was worth approximately 21 shillings at the end of the 19th century.

The Guinea is a coin that captures the imagination of most coin collectors who dream of finding a hoard of these beautiful golden coins. It is a particularly attractive coin and one that few coin collectors will ever actually own (not least due to the ever rising value of gold which is putting many rare gold coins out of the reach of coin collectors).

The stater is mostly of Macedonian origin. Celtic tribes brought it in to Europe after using it as mercenaries in north Greece. It circulated from the 8th century BC to 50 AD. According to Robin Lane Fox, it was borrowed by the Euboeans from the Phoenician shekel, which was of about the same weight and was also a fiftieth part of a mina.

Original mintings of this coin such as practiced in Athens valued the stater at a tetradrachm (4 drachms), though issues at other places or times applied the word "stater" to a didrachm (2 drachm) coin. The stater was also minted at Corinth.[2] Staters were also struck in some of the Mediterranean islands such as Aegina and Kydonia. For example, one silver coin struck in Kydonia was that of a stater featuring the Minoan goddess Britomartis.[3]

There also existed a "gold stater", but it was only minted in some places, and was mainly an accounting unit worth 20-28 drachms depending on place and time, the Athenian unit being worth 20 drachms. (The reason being that one gold stater generally weighed roughly 8.5 grams, twice as much as a drachm, while the parity gold:silver, after some variance, was established as 1:10) The best known types of gold staters are the 28 drachm Kyzikenos from Cyzicus, and the gold staters minted in Gaul that Gallic chiefs modelled after those of Philip II of Macedonia, which mercenaries brought back West after serving in his armies, or those of Alexander and his successors. Some coins are collected all around the world and one of the most popular non-British coins is the silver dollar. Why is the silver dollar so popular? Well, I think there are a number of reasons. Firstly, the silver dollar has historic connections with the old American wild west - chances are that if you have watched more than a handful of westerns you will have encountered the legendary American coin in some scene or other. It's a world famous coin rather like the gold sovereign or krugerrand. Like those coins, it is of course, most famously minted from solid silver and any solid silver coins are not only very valuable, especially at the moment due to rises in the values of precious metals, but they are also big coins and so when made of solid silver, the silver dollar is a magnificent coin which oozes both history and importance.

Silver dollars were minted by both Canada and the United States. In the US, perhaps the most famous version is known as the Morgan dollar. The Morgan dollar was issued from 1878 until 1921. There were none made in the years 1905 to 1920. The most common Morgan dollar coins are the 1921 minted one. The Morgan Silver dollar gets its name from the designer of the coin, George T. Morgan. Many US and worldwide coin collectors seek out these particular coins and the many variations and mint marks are also carefully sought after. As with any rare coins, condition is everything. Morgan silver dollar coins also have a very special 'Top 100" rare examples which is a list that was put together by Leroy C. Van Allen and A. George Mallis who had undertaken a large amount of research into the production and minting of these Morgan dollars, carefully noting every tiny variation. The silver dollar coins in their list of 100 are known as VAM silver dollars.

The other thing that makes Morgan silver dollars so collectable is the fact that many examples are relatively inexpensive and so coin collectors can get very imposing and tactile silver coins for what is a relatively low price compared to other comparable coins.
